Shoplifter’s Derren Smart & Craig Richards (Fabric) continue their fantastic Shoplifter parties to the Horse and Groom for a Monthly party for people with light fingers and discerning ears where they will be dropping the disco, soul and rarities while taking things on a deeper house and taking care of proceedings on the first floor presenting two of London’s ‘young blood’, Robin Ordell and Greg Brockmann. Summer is finally upon us and to celebrate we’re throwing another mega Beats Bubble party at our favourite late night East London venue The Horse & Groom. Spread across two floors, we’ll be supplying your ears and dancing shoes with some of the finest house, electro, disco and electronic grooves & we are very pleased to be joined for this event by dance music icon Barry Ashworth!

The evolution of the Dub Pistols has been fascinating to watch since Barry Ashworth and Jason O’Bryan first bust out in 1996 as fully-formed party animals declaring ‘There’s Gonna Be A Riot’. While their live show continued to whip up unbridled mayhem and build a healthy worldwide following through relentless touring, the records took their own path, moving swiftly on from initial big beat whoopee into celebrations of two lifetimes of musical obsessions, the reggae-punk implications of the Dub Pistols moniker just the launch-pad.

For this July edition DMode goes a little bit housier downstairs so as to musically blend with our very special guest and headliner Simon Lee, one half of the infamous duo Faze Action.

Faze Action are the UK band founded by Simon and Robin Lee. They went on to create the underground cello led classic “In The Trees” on the groundbreaking Nuphonic label in the mid 90s. They have since released 4 albums including the recent critically acclaimed “Stratus Energy” and gained recognition as a top live act touring heavily playing live at Glastonbury and supporting Groove Armada.

The Interference boys are back and at a new venue!

We are very excited to announce that we are holding an Interference party at The Horse and Groom. We are ready again to take you into another deep journey of techno/house/breaks with our three resident Interference DJs:

Alex Kershaw was one of the co founders of Interference back in 2003. He has a gift for flawless mixes of deep bass driven techno and electro tinged house. It is a sound gaurenteed to get you moving and perfect for the intimate back room venues we play.

Alex will be accompanied by another master of the mix and co Interference founder James Garlick. James’ style is a completely unique form of tech driven house and techno. He has DJed all over the world including a stint on Columbian radio. A stalwart on the underground outdoor party scene in and around Cambridge, James has all the skills to push a dancefloor to the point of hysteria!

Joining these two musical wizards is Jim Carey. Jim has a varied musical background of producing and performing classical, soundtrack and dance music. His core interest is quality deep techno and breaks with a smattering of squelchy minimal sounds. After moving to London in the early ‘00s, he helped establish the Interference name.

The De la Techa boys have been throwing parties in East London for some time now and Fri July 23rd sees them take flight to the top floor of the Horse & Groom in Curtain Road.

For this inaugural bash, the lads have been busy procuring some of the finest house, disco and acid they can get their grubby little mitts on and joining them is Edinburgh’s Soul Loco resident and and up-and-coming producer Ewan Smith (Resident Advisor / Soul Loco / CityWest). Since moving to London he’s made quite a name for himself – from helping promote a series of excellent Resident Advisor parties to his upcoming slot at Eastern Electrics he’ll be one to watch for 2010 and beyond.

So Glue is one year old and we’ll be celebrating in style with one of our best lineups to date! Headlining are 601, hailing with the wild lands of the north these boys made it big in the breaks scene and have since expanded into a range of styles and an awesome live show. However at Glue they’ll be gracing us with a rare DJ set, no doubt full of classic tunes, fresh new cuts and a few of their own tracks.

And helping out are Hubie who’ll be dropping his usual mix of tastefully selected eclectic numbers and Milky Joe, radio superstar and DJ icon who’ll be taking Bump’s usual slot and getting the crowd warmed up with some jumping breaks and thumping techno. And as always Glue’s resident, Hell Yeah, will be ending the night with his very own blend of of electro, breaks and rave noise which always goes down a charm.

DarkStarr is the new unit formed of music superheroes Ashley Beedle and Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. Following on from the launch of their new album last month, ‘Psychedelic Disco-Tech – They live by the Night’ and sizzling guest set the following weekend at Horse Meat Disco, Darkstarr will be taking the Horse & Groom’s dancefloor from this world to another again, in their own unique way.

Joining DarkStarr are ISM’s Yam Who? and Shorty G with their new night Electric Boogie – the perfect complement to DarkStarr’s disco heritage. ISM Records is at the forefront of the electronic boogie revolution – with recent releases from artists such as Ron Basejam & Killer Whale. These guys will be dropping a blinding selection of upfront electronic boogie and disco grooves from stonecold classics through to current releases.

Tactile with Ben UFO and BokBok

After a wicked party in May with Perempay and Lakuti (which we reckon may just have been our best one yet) we’re back at the Horse & Groom on 31st July. There’s no letting up as we welcome Hessle Audio boss and virtuoso selector, Ben UFO, and the man behind one of London’s most on-point nights and labels, Bok Bok, for a special two-hour back-to-back set.

We don’t need to say much about Hessle Audio ¬¬– with critically acclaimed releases from the likes of Ramadanman, Joe, Pangaea and Untold, it’s fair to say we’re big fans. Ben is also an incredible DJ and after playing one of the best sets we’ve had at Tactile in the dingy Satchmo’s basement last year (back when you could smoke in there!), moving from early Strictly Rhythm through 4×4 garage to white hot dubplates from the likes of Untold and the then-unsigned producer Joy Orbison, we had to get him back.

Another man who was at Satchmo’s that night (though on the other side of the booth) was Alex Bok Bok. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 12 months, Night Slugs have taken the capital by storm, throwing exemplary parties at The Egg and East Village and hosting a room at the FACT party at Cable last month. This year they also launched their own label, which so far has brought huge releases from Mosca, GIRL UNIT and Lil Silva. His DJing skills have taken Bok Bok around Europe and the US to rep the Night Slugs sound and earned him and L-Vis 1990 a regular slot on the mighty Rinse FM. We frankly cannot wait to see him and Mr UFO going back to back for a full two hours.

Alex Nikiporenko fuses a variety of styles but his passion lies within improvisation and chamber music. Accompanied by his very talented drummer, Alex takes a break from being creative in residence at The Hospital Club and composing commissions for the BBC Proms to bring us this intimate performance.

‘Live & Wired’ – The Royal Academy of Music World Premiere

Nonclassical are pleased to be the host for the premier performance of nine short works for violin and laptop. Performed by Aisha Orazbayeva and nine composers from RAM, the pieces explore the instrument by transforming its sound in real time and by mixing it with pre-recorded violin samples.

DarkStarr sees Ashley and Cosmo reviving celebrated New York / London traditions. Drawing on Cosmo’s experiences at the Loft and Body & Soul, ‘DarkStarr’ has the DJs playing together as a one-on-one stream of consciousness rather than having specific ego-driven DJ sets that break up and fragment the vibe. They play without boundaries and let the music do the talking, playing records in full and letting them tell a story.

Intergalactic sonic space cadet Tom Staar jets into the Horse and Groom this month for a sprinkling of stardust, retro synths and quasar sounds…  Hailing from deep within our solar system, past the rocky contours of the moon & beyond the fizzing gases of Jupiter, lone space traveller Tom Staar is in search for his long lost colony of intergalactic compadres. Not knowing if he is the last of his kind, all Tom still remembers is how much they liked to dance! In a last bid to make contact, Tom send interstellar messages… in the only form he knows how… electro-synth bangers!

One of original brains behind Moda, Lincoln’s stellar club night, Tom has been working behind the scenes to generate some of the biggest parties, and tunes that you know and love. Tom has honed his sound through working as a producer and engineer for H2, Doorly and the fellow Moda brothers in crime Andy George and Jaymo over the past few years…

Now Moda has spun out its own record Label Tom is releasing under his own name, with a new EP Heavy Artillery about to be released and collaborations with such small fry as Doorly, Style of Eye, Hervé, other Moda boys Andy George and Jaymo, Sinden and someone super super secret… it looks like the next few months are gonna be pretty dull in outta space…

Hailing from north-west London MESK got his first decks when he was 11. He started out early on the drum and bass scene producing from the tender age of 13. More recently MESK has moved into electro and brakes and has been making waves in the east London scene ever since

A celebration of the life and work of influential illustrator Ray Lowry, marking the beginning of his retrospective exhibition at Idea Generation Gallery – a short walk up the road from the Horse & Groom.Illustrator for the likes of NME, Punch, Private Eye and The International Times, Lowry became most famous for his creation of The Clash’s 1979 London Calling album sleeve. His work continues to inspire today and the exhibition features contributions from the likes of Tracey Emin, Billy Childish, Harry Hill and Mick Jones.

Justin Robertson’s career in dance music dates all the way back to the Madchester days when he was spinning at clubs like Spice and Most Excellent, often frequented by two lads called Tom and Ed who would later become The Chemical Brothers. Now based in London, Robertson fulfills roles as DJ, producer and lead singer of band Thee Earls.

As a DJ, Justin wears several hats besides the naff one on his head. Regulars to London nights Bugged Out and Together will be familiar with his mixture of ravey acid techno and electronic house while those who frequent Gay Mod and Sunday Best will know him for his eclectic sets of reggae, northern soul and pop.

Ray Mang is the disco dance party DJ alter ego of writer/producer Raj Gupta. The moniker was introduced as a vehicle for creating, releasing and spinning anything goes disco-centric party music for collectors, dancers, enthusiasts and Jocks alike. Taking inspiration from the extended disco mixes, dub versions and edits of such luminaries as Larry Levan, Walter Gibbons, Daniele Baldelli, Tee Scott, Began Cekic and Tom Moulton, and the open minded music policies of some of the pioneering early clubs such as the Paradise Garage, the Loft and the Italian Cosmic parties, Ray Mang set out to help keep the glitter ball shimmering and the disco flame burning into the new millennium!

It takes more than an Icelandic volcano to beat house music, so Dropout soldiers on into the summer most definitely not under a cloud of any sort. With summer in full swing (fingers crossed) the long nights demand staying out late, so no better excuse to head down to one of London’s best-kept secrets, the Horse and Groom, for stacks of cutting-edge music in retro surroundings as we whip up a cocktail of house and techno for East London’s finest.

April’s 2nd birthday celebrations were a roof-raiser, with Mixtape’s Gus Brown astride the decks manfully beside our party-popping residents, and saw us launch our monthly podcast. We’re proud to be wading into a third year, and in June we’re delighted to have a truly multi-talented guest to help us on our way. DJ P45 brings his mighty array of electronica to the Groom this month alongside residents Jamie Richards and Stef Lesik. As ever, the serious effort goes into Dropout’s commitment to shit-hot music, free from big club pretention. It’s all getting back to good quality house and techno in a venue that cares more about the beats than the boat shoes. Small-town life was never going to be enough for an artist whose influences ranged as wide as Goldie, LFO, Ninja Tunes’ collective and genre-creating 80s electro. It was in Leeds at university that P45’s horizons expanded, playing across the city and starting the fabled Room 237, which saw his relentless efforts as promoter and resident bring some of the most interesting and forward-thinking artists, from Ben Sims and Appleblim to Flying Lotus and Jamie Liddel.

Now relocated to London, he continues to twin his production and DJ work alongside the promoting, and whether it’s his genre-bending DJ sets, that take in everything from dubstep, techno, D’n’B and Hip-Hop or his cutting-edge live act, he’s an artists that certainly befits the eclectic tag without edging into unfocussed cliché. P45’s mastery of software, hardware and a spectrum of sounds sees him command regular dates in Leeds, London and Manchester, and as far afield as Croatia.

Glue is back in June welcoming the early day’s of summer with a storming lineup and a night of solid party beats! Heading up the party will Mister Sushi who’ll be dropping a heady mix of beats.

We’ve also got Ryu – head honcho of Rockit Science and all round superstar DJ, expect a mix of house, breaks and solid party tunes. You do not want to miss his set! And as always the Glue’s residents, Hell Yeah and Bump will be filling out the lineup with there unique charms and special tunes. Hell Yeah will be dropping his mix of electro, breaks and rave noise which always goes down a charm whilst Bump will be playing out a slightly deeper, techier selection to help get the party started!

Friday June 25th sees Ali Tillett and Tim Goldsworthy follow up their hugely successful April edition by enlisting the talents of a pair of Glaswegian living legends, Optimo!!

OPTIMO

When Keith McIvor (AKA Twitch) and Jonnie Wilkes formed Optimo in 1997 they both had 10 years of DJing behind them. As a teenager in Belfast Wilkes had been plying his trade playing out reggae, funk and jazz, while Twitch came from an equally eclectic background which also saw him co-found Scotland’s first techno club, Pure. Pure became legendary, bringing in the likes of Jeff Mills, Derrick May, and Richie Hawtin, but by 1997 both felt that an antidote to the endless 4/4 beat was necessary, and after a fateful meeting on a Glasgow-Edinburgh bus journey Optimo was born, along with its legendary anything-goes philosophy. Unpredictable, genre-defying, and endlessly knowledgeable, the sounds that the pair brought to Glasgow’s Sub Club caused Optimo to become an institution, a haven for music-fans tired of blinkered music policies, eager for new sounds and wide-ranging booking policies. Over the years the club saw the likes of Liquid Liquid (from whom, of course, they take their name), Grace Jones, James Chance, and LCD Soundsystem. Optimo as we know it is now finished, but its spirit lives on in a new night at Sub Club and a highly anticipated Fabric mix, and Twitch and Wilkes continue to tour the Optimo sound around the world.

TIM GOLDSWORTHY

Tim Goldsworthy is one of the unsung heroes of electronic dance music. Having co-founded the legendary Mo’Wax label in the early 1990’s with UNKLE’s James Lavelle they went on to sign acts such as Air, Luke Vibert, Malcolm Catto, DJ Shadow and DJ Krush to name just a few! After leaving Mo’Wax and London behind he fled to NYC where he set-up yet another hugely influential label, DFA Records with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, where he produced ground breaking LP’s for LCD Soundsystem, Hercules & Love Affair and Cut Copy. Having now relocated to Bristol, Tim has been working in the studio with Massive Attack, The Detachments and Goldfrapp! Once again Tim will be treating us to his new DJ/live set-up which sees him incorporating aspects of his studio into his an Ableton set stock-full of drum machines and EFX to create something a bit out of the ordinary!

FRIENDLY FIRES

Taking over the decks upstairs will be Friendly Fires. Friendly Fires are one of the most exciting bands to come out of the UK in the last few years, and they have a clear affection for disco, house and techno which shines through in their own music and also in the booking policy for their club nights at the Warehouse Project in Manchester and The Coronet in London, which has included the likes of Prins Thomas, Michael Mayer, and Horse Meat Disco to name a few. Their tracks have been turned into dancefloor smashes by the likes of Justus Kohncke and Aeroplane, and they have recently released a special split 12’’ with DFA’s Holy Ghost! Simply put, the Friendly Fires boys know how to throw a party.

Joining Tim Goldsworthy, Optimo and Friendly Fires will be Warm’s very own head honcho Ali Tillett. Ali has been behind the hugely successful Warm agency for the past ten years looking after artists such as Ame, Dixon, Henrik Schwarz, Horse Meat Disco, The Revenge and Mark E to name just a few! Having worked at Nuphonic Records before its demise he has played at the now legendary London Xpress and Bridge & Tunnel parties warming up for artists such as Carl Craig, DJ Harvey, Metro Area and many more.

Allez Allez really need no introduction in these here parts – Steve Nolan and Sam Willis are two of London’s finest DJs, producers, label chiefs, party starters and bloggers. Lots of fingers in lots of tasty musical pies, then, from Sam’s work with Kompakt singed kraturock duo Walls to the pair’s upcoming release on uber cool NYC imprint RVNG Intl (out at the end of this month just quietly). This relentlessly interesting duo have record collections that would impressive even the most devoted vinyl boffins, and we are delighted to have them on board for the second Shameless Disco session at the Horse & Groom.

Providing ample support on the evening will be Alex Bradley. For the uninitiated, Alex is part of the fledgling Voyeurhythm imprint, with a couple of stellar 12”s under the belt that have already found their way into the record bags of many a discerning house jock (Panoramabar’s Steffi being a notable example). He’s also a founder of Love Fever, one of the few London parties that actually give a shit about the sights, sounds and feel of their events. And he’s a super tight DJ to boot. Expect a smooth set that touches on the deeper end of house, disco and all things Balearic.

Bookending the night once again we have the Shameless Disco residents, who will do utmost to keep toes tapping and bums wiggling, whatever it takes. You have been warned!

One time proprietor of the infamous Atlas Records shop in Soho, London over a decade ago, Pete divides his time these days either behind the wheels of steel at clubs and parties around the globe or in the studio working solo or with friends on various musical projects…

For Eskimo Recordings in Belguim Pete has released as Reverso 68 with the balearic timelord himself Phil Mison releasing recent classics such as Tokyo Disko, Especial and Piece Together (with Todd Terje on remix duty) as well as remixing the likes of Juan Maclean, Grace Jones, Ajello, Tosca, Bent and Badly Drawn Boy amoungst others and they are currently working towards an album due out soon.. Pete has also recorded as LSB alongside Barcelonas finest DJ and club terrorist Babyg. Three monster hits for Eskimo, plus two mini albums-worth of re-edits and singles on their own label Superdiscoteca in the last few years and a string of peaktime dancefloor remixes for the likes of The Runaways, Ilija Rudman and Low Motion Disco have seen the LSB sound rise to the fore in recent times. Pete also records under his own name, recently remixing the likes of Royksopp, Dirty Jesus, Ilija Rudman, and D:Ream as well as releasing for his label Specialist Interests and has recently teamed up with Barry Reeves (Dicky Trisco) for their new label MAXI DISCS focusing on their take of Tropical House with releases by Norwegian Marius, Ray Mang and Pete and Barry themselves..

When not in the studio Pete can be found regularly behind the decks at places such as Fabric in his native London and other forward thinking clubs around Europe and has recently and regularly done stints djing in Australia, Indonesia, Brazil, India, Russia, Croatia, Lithuania, Paris, Ibiza,Tel Aviv and beyond… expect a unexpected mix of Balearic leftfield disco/house/italo/dub/funk and beyond!!

ROB MELLO

London based DJ and Producer; Rob Mello has recorded, produced, and remixed a diverse catalogue of releases since 1992. One of his guises was the pioneering disco and house duo Disco Elements/ Sensory Productions, Previously signed to Azuli Records. Rob was also co-founder of the saucy house label Luxury Service and produced the first Black Science Orchestra single with Ashley Beedle, “Where were you”, released on the legendary London house label, Boys Own. Since then Rob has been appearing regularly on Classic Records and after 10 years of releases for this label has produced the very last release on this ground breaking label (Cat nos 000).

Rob has also made the move into film score work. In 1999 Rob, with Matthew Herbert, was responsible for writing all the incidental music on the UK club culture movie, Human Traffic for which they were up for nomination for a BAFTA. Rob has been DJing since 1986 and has pioneered his own style that is much in demand with various regular appearances and residences all over the world, far too many to mention!

Eddie Richards needs no introduction. Acid house pioneer, tec house god who has been djing for 30 years has asked to play a different set from usual as he has been getting into the nu disco sound….A big inspiration to Richard Sen + Cazbee, Eddie will dig out old and new disco from his vast archive..

Eddie Richards is sometimes known as “Britain’s godfather of house and techno” (Mixmag). He was one of the first DJs to champion house music back in the mid 1980s and one of the UK’s original mix DJs residing at London’s Camden Palace, voted best club in the world in Record Mirror.

After smashing on to the music scene in 2008 with their heavy-weight basslines, hip hop vocals and four deck/2 mixer genre defying DJ sets. They rapidly gained support from a wide spectrum of headline acts like DJ Yoda, Jack Beats, Atomic Hooligan, A.Skillz and Russ Cuban, Kissy Sell out and Annie Nightingale, both on Radio 1.

Their first festival season saw them play the headline sets at Glade, Aeon and Tignesfest to capacity audiences, and this year the diary is getting busier by the day. 2010 sees the Thugs ‘go it alone’ when they launch their own Blog, Label and Store on the 1st of April (no joke!) over at http://www.2bitthugs.com. The duo will use this platform to release exclusive original material, FREE remix parts, DJ mixes, continuing with their successful ‘Re-Rub’ series and keeping the fan base up to date with gigs, news and general nonsense..

The Revenge (Instruments of Rapture)

The Last Year has been huge for the Scottish disco maestro Graeme Clark aka The Revenge. He has been spinning his Disco edits from Cork to Amsterdam, Zurich to New York, Warsaw to Athens and just about everywhere in between while following Villalobos and Craig Richards with a storming set Fabrics 10th Birthday. Never content to stop The Revenge will take to Horse and Groom for an extended set on the 2nd May. His acclaimed edits for celebrated label Jisco music have breathed new life into the likes of Stevie Wonder Hot Chocolate and Unfinished Business. They are now essential records in any House & Disco DJs Bag and are flying off the shelf as quickly as they are getting into the shops. His recent original productions and remixes both solo and alongside collaborators such as Craig Smith have been tearing up dancefloors internationally for the last few months.

Graeme is no novice to production. It all began in his teenage years when he began making a skewed blend of electronic music using a couple of his dad’s old drum machines and a sampler. Influenced by his parents’ collection of rock, soul and funk as well as eighties daytime radio and the burgeoning rave scene, he began the process of dissecting and re-imagining the music.

From disco dons to house heads, it seems we all can’t get enough of The Revenge. Just watch your back and remember…revenge is sweet.

Last month NONCLASSICAL was rammed to the rafters with music lovers enjoying performances from GéNIA and Oxford-based music collective PINDROP. This month we  have four more guests from home and abroad showcasing for you.

Okkyung Lee ft. John Edwards Direct from New York’s lower east side, Cellist Okkyung Lee has worked with numerous artists on the  improvisation scene, such as Laurie Anderson, John Zorn, Steve Beresford, Evan Parker and Thurston Moore to name but a few. She will be joined by John Edwards on Double Bass, who is a regular player with Evan Parker.

Dirty Electronics (John Richards)  is a DIY electronics ensemble led by pioneer and researcher John Richards. The ensemble consists of workshop participants who make their own ‘instruments’. Richards is currently collaborating with Chris Carter of Throbbing Gristle fame.

GéNIA Virtuoso pianist and educator GéNIA continues her 3 month residency at NONCLASSICAL by  previewing more of her upcoming album G Prokofiev Piano Book No. 1, released on May 10th. Her last album on NONCLASSICAL was a collaboration between her and John Richards, so fingers  crossed for a spontaneous collaboration on the night!

Light fingered guest this month are shopifter favourite Josif and Carsten Klemann from circus company joining Craig Richards (Fabric) and Derren Smart for another night of dishonest disco!!

Shoplifter is proud to announce the third in a series of parties for  the dishonest held over two floors at well known London watering hole The horse and Groom. Hosted as always by repeat offenders Craig Richards and Derren Smart. This months light fingered guest is shoplifter favourite Josif, joining him is Carsten Klemann from circus company.

Josif needs no introduction, a rising star with his productions in  the charts of the well informed and his ability behind the decks celebrated by the ears that matter. Josif has releases forthcoming  on New York label Wolf and Lamb and brand new London label Fist or finger.

Carsten, was born and raised in Berlin, where he started Djing at the age of 17, He soon became a regular at some of the major clubs there, like Watergate, Cookies and Panoramabar. He is part of the Techno Boy Band “MY MY”, who released an album on Playhouse in 2007. His sets are rooted in House and since he moved from the Minimal Capital to London his selection is even more diverse than ever, bringing Disco, Pop and the odd Dubstep-tune into his sets.

So expect yet another installment of the very best in soul, disco, funk, oddities and rarities.

Nic Liu / Love Express (Love International / Tonic Records): When not busy promoting record label Love International (www.lov-in.com) or spinning out under his alias ‘ohliuliu’, Nic likes to play house, groovy techno and disco. His label efforts have seen a signing to Word and Sound distribution, so look out his first releases on Love International in the coming months. On the Dj front he has been playing a far a field as Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. More recent gigs have seen him at the Dalston Superstore, Egg, Always Fridays + Mixmag parties as well as grace the decks at London’s coolest techno party Wet Yourself @ Fabric.

Pressplay_dj (Our House): When not messing about in his studio doing reworks and edits, Pressplay likes to do the odd mash up dj set. He’s a die hard indie fan turned to the dark side of electro-dance music. With influences from Fidget, Indie and Electro expect the unexpected and get ready to dance. Did he just drop an indie-remix?!

Rick Tozer (Revenge Is Sweet): Falling in love with music at the dawn of Rave, Rick frequented warehouse parties and classic nights such as Seduction, Evolution and the infamous Camber Weekender in 1992. When he was 15 he set about ripping up the local house party scene in South West London and then over the next 5 years built up a great reputation, had three weekly residencies, played on bills alongside the likes of Grooverider, Fabio, Judge Jules, Oakenfold, Plump Djs and Sven Vath to name a few and played parties at The Cross and Ministry Of Sound. After a 5 year sabbatical in a rock band producing live beats he’s returned to his DJ roots and we are proud to have him spinning.

The Horse and Groom and MOOCH go back, 19 DJs, 17 Months, 15 Parties, 4 residents and 1 Plub The Horse & Groom……The last 17 months have seen the hand reared MOOCH, crawling, walking and raving into something rather special. The time has come where MOOCH needs to leave home, widen its horizons.The ‘Last Waltz’ at our favourite Shoreditch stable sees a popular booking from last year come back for a sleazy, jackin, tech-fest……Hands up heads down for……
Louis Guilhem (Minimal Carnival / Lo*Kee)

Born in France, Montpellier, Louis grew up surrounded by music, is father a guitar player, his sister a pianist and now a professional singer. As a teenager he enjoyed playing the drums, creating rhythm with different tools. He swapped the drums for decks and fell in love with electronic music. He moved to London at the age of 19 with his first gig at the infamous Café 1001 he found his place within the East London scene. Moving forward saw gigs at Ministry of Sound and several warehouse parties this led onto promoting his very own and widely respected club night Minimal Carnival. At just 23 years old he’s already played at parties at Tbar, Kubicle, Gramaphone, Unit7 (London), Bar25 (Berlin), Batofar and La Terassa (Paris) and Genau in (Sweden). Recently Louis has joined Lo*kee as one of their residents, sharing the DJ booth with artists such as Jamie Jones, Tobi Neumann and Clive Henry to mention only a few. His refreshing and unexpected DJ performances are a delightful mix of exclusive, underground house ‘n’ minimal including many of his own productions……a most fitting DJ to set the tone to our departure.

They will be exploring many genres of music including: soul, funk, rock, disco, neu wave, house, techno, electro and classics. Influenced by the pre house scene that stems from venues like The Music Box and Paradise Garage, this will be an open house for those who know and like good music.

Graffiti artist Richard Sen has been DJing since 1989 starting with a residency at the legendary Crazy Club at the now deceased Astoria. Ecstacy, Acid House and frequent trips to New York, visiting his heroes at Nu Groove and Strictly Rhythm gave Richard the house music bug. He is known for his production outfits Padded Cell and Bronx Dogs.Highlights of his career include: Heavenly Social residency 1998-2000, ‘DJ of the Month’ FACE 1998, being nominated for ‘Best New DJ’ MUZIK AWARDS 1998. He was also a key influence on the 80’s underground graffiti movement in the UK (and also one of the first to be sent to prison for graffiti!) and appeared in the BBC television documentary Open Space ‘Bad Meaning Good’ in 1987. His artwork has also graced the record covers of Sabres of Paradise (‘Smokebelch’ and ‘Theme’). A full interview on his graffiti and music work can be seen in the June 2005 issue of Undercover magazine. Richard now records with partner Neil Beatnik under the name Padded Cell, they are signed to DC Recordings and released an album in May 2008. Sen has also done his own solo remixes for Cosmo Vitteli, Tirk and Black Devil Disco Club In keeping with the attitude from his graffiti background, Richard’s DJ style is totally unique and it’s important for him not to be pigeonholed. He has played big room house/techno sets and can also play crazy eclectic sets including psyched out rock, leftfield cosmic funk and disco, newave/electro oddities and early house obscurities.

Hustle
was born out of a labour of love when Neil Thornton (Lasermagnetic) & Argentinean Disco don Guille Bo decided to throw some proper fun parties with the ethos aimed at the dancefloor rather than the chin stroking brigade. At their parties previous guest have included Stefan (Disco Outcasts), Stevie Kotey (Chicken Lips), Wild Geese, Bottin, Ray Mang, Richard Sen, Disco Bloodbath, Bad Passion Project, Joe Lye, Nathan Gregory Wilkins, Severino (HMD) and Thomas (Rub n Tug) booking djs who love to entertain the crowd and who get involved too…Their infamous Hustle parties fall on the 2nd Friday of every Month at Shoreditch’s legendary Disco Pub the Horse & Groom. Neil has been involved in the London disco scene for a long time now with the Lasermagnetic events he ran with Johnny Hiller and regular gigs @ Fabric while Guille has played at some fantastic clubs in South America. When the boys play together, expect a non stop party of rediscovered unclassics alongside more modern house and electronic delights where the most important aspect is about the making sure that everyone is having the best
possible time and having a fiesta as Guille calls.

Johnny ‘Chingas’ Hiller, helped kick start the recent disco revival. Many of the scene’s DJ’s played their first gig in the UK at a Lasermagnetic Party (with he still occasionally runs with Neil Thornton), long before they were picked up upon: Lindstrom, Beppe Loda & Typhoon, Dr. Nishimura from Discosessions Japan, Tim Sweeney, Citizen Kane from NYC, Woolfy (US), I-f (CBS), Chromatics (Portland), Danny Wang, Brennan Green (Nyc), Loud-e (Holland), Strangefruit (Norway). Never afraid take risks or unexpected turns during his sets, Johnny embraces all kinds of music, from the leftfield and tropical to more groove led and dubbed out sounds. Over the years Johnny has played next to some of the scenes best loved artists, from Metro Area, Prins Thomas, Dixon, Ame, Andrew Weatherall, Padded Cell, Trevor Jackson, Rub n Tug, Idjut Boys, Larry T, Horsemeat Disco, Secretsundaze, Friendly Fires, Little Boots, Inflagranti, Glimmers, Robert Owens and many more and as a result, Lasermagnetic parties have been in demand and were held in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Shanghai, Tokyo, Yokohama, Bejing, Melbourne, Sydney, Turku, Izmir and Zurich.

A night of disco, house and party vibes as record label and renowned party throwers ///Shift and legendary website and record connoisseurs DJHistory come together for their monthly party mash up over 2 floors at the Horse and Groom. The line ups for the previous parties have been good but this month it proves to be extra special as the are joined by an array of musical talent. We’re very happy to have Secretsundaze head honcho James Priestly who is being joined by a ///Shift friend who rocked it at his last secret appearance, the legendary disco remixing pioneer from New York… John Morales. DJHistory have invited a good friend of theirs a brilliant producer and dj, he is one half of Reverso 68… Phil Mason. This little lot are joined by the ///Shift & DJHistory residents… expect some very special music.

///James Priestley (Secret Sundaze)

James discovered dance music in the form of House, Hardcore & Jungle as a teenager during weekly rave sessions in Cambridge, London and East Anglia area. During his university years he started working in Selectadisc record store,
allowing him to familiarize further with modern dance sounds and after moving to London in 2001 he worked for Timewarp Distribution and subsequently at ArisionRecordings and eventually Phonica Records where his eyes and ears opened to the new wave of House and Techno rolling in the UK shores. In 2002 with the help of old Cambridge friends he launched ‘Secretsundaze’ now a household name (in East London anyway). The legendary Sunday afternoon party with cutting edge music policy and queues snaking along round block corners, became the darling of London’s club kids gaining ‘Best UK Club Night’ award from both TimeOut and Mixmag in 2005. SecretSundaze has since taken James and his partner Giles Smith around the globe and they have played host to some of world’s most renowned Djs such as Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Trevor Jackson and Steve Bug to name but a few. James himself has through his distinct style of deep house & techno, favouring strong melodies and warm organic sounds, sometimes borrowing from his freestyle back ground, earned nominations for ‘Best DJ’ in DJ magazine ‘Best of British’ awards while Secretsundaze has been up for ‘Best Small Club’ gong. In 2004 he launched Go!Zilla as a platform to express his more diverse sounds
and tastes incorporating more Disco and Live bands in the part realm. His current residency is at Cargo, Shoreditch.

///John Morales (M+M)

In 1975, while being DJ for a few years in local Bronx clubs, John Morales realised that he wanted to make some of his records last longer in time, back then most were in the 3/4 minutes range… So by use of his TEAC 71/2 and a box of razor blades John started splicing tape for endless hours and so became most probably one the first DJ to create the ‘extended mix’ (or ‘remix’ in it’s original form). In doing so he realised also that he could achieve a similarthing by cutting, slicing and taping parts from different recordings and so was born the basis for his (deadly) medleys. John says “I can still see the 100’s of edits zoom by every-time I play the tape”. John Morales started to release some of his reel to reel edits, medleys and remixes to Acetate via the Sunshine Sound (a NYC studio where DJ’s could bring their reel to reel tapes and have acetate copies cut one at a time), so that he and later anyone could play these tracks at clubs. Greg Carmichael gave him his first mixing job after hearing some of his Sunshine Acetate mixes and these first two official mixes made him famous: ’Dance and Shake Your Tambourine’ for ‘Universal Robot Band’ and the classic from ‘Inner Life’: ‘I’m Caught Up”. However many of his early mixes and edits, even officially released, were and remains uncredited and so might not appear in his discography ! John has been working for numerous of acts and has been involved in over 500 songs. Both on his own and as part of M&M (Morales & Munzibai) Productions with Sergio Munzibai. John Morales is truly one of the most crucial originator of the extended mix, remix and re-edit idea, anyone in that field own him tribute.

Phil Mason (Reverso 68)
REVERSO 68 is the studio based project of producer/djs Pete Herbert and Phil Mison. The two met many moons ago whilst Phil was a resident at the Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza and bought records from Pete who was running record shops in Soho, London at the time, just before he opened the infamous Atlas Records vinyl emporium. As well as djing extensively around the globe for the last decade and more recently working together ..(the duo have also recorded an album as Frontera for Music for Dreams out in Spring 2006)…. they have also both recorded and released their own projects, Phil as Cantoma with Music For Dreams, and Pete as Bakazou and as part of LSB and Optimus for Eskimo Recordings and their offshoot Suicide and as Cuica for Ubiquity Records,California. Over the last few years Reverso 68 have released ‘Piece Together’ on Pete’s label Specialist Interests as well as various remixes including reworks for Juan Maclean (DFA), Manhead (Relish), Bent (Ministry) and Stratus (Klein) to name a few..(see Discography). The REVERSO 68 sound could be descibed as a deep mix of Balearic disco and spaced out,melodic electronics made with the dancefloor in mind but definately a listening pleasure for all occasions

The first ever Shameless Disco at the Horse & Groom will be headlined by Firecracker’s favourite son, Linkwood. You’ll most likely already know Linkwood, aka Nick Moore, as the man behind some killer EPs onboutique Scottish imprint Firecracker, a label that has become popular with vinyl fetishists thanks to their limited runs of 10” records and unique artwork.  Linkwood’s insouciant fusion of deep house, jazz, boogie, hip-hop and Detroit techno – first heard in these Firecracker early releases – was showcased magnificently in his 2009 full length System, released on Trus’Me’s Prime Numbers imprint. Bearing that in mind, it goes without saying that we are delighted to have him headlining the first ever Shameless Disco soiree at the Horse & Groom.

Supporting on the night will be the ever reliable supporting cast of Charlie Watson, Rubicon, Aaron Coultate and Jamie Hayward, who will be drunkenly dabbling in their usual array house, disco and techno. Do not miss this one.

Taking care of the Downstairs are The WI Club. The Wi Club is a dangerous and highly entertaining collective of women armed with some serious tuneage – ready to take to the decks for a serious onslaught of dance-floor mayhem. This month, we have Sophie Lloyd, Lulu Levan, Cashmere Misfit, Eeek Empire, Claire Hughes, Serena Wilson, Zena White, Julianna Kurokawa plus special guest in drag to be announced, whom will be dropping their vinyl load in drag. Yes, that’s right, keep eyes peeled for superstar male DJs making appearances at the WI Club in a frock and a female alter-ego – but will you be able to guess who they are?

TWIC is about fun, eclectic and inspiring music selection – with tongue placed firmly in cheek – presented to you by some of London’s most charming and dangerous women from the worlds of music and media. Expect a steady carpet-shaking selection of house, disco, hip hop, techno, acid house, indie-electro and who-knows-what-else in-between. Welcome to the WI Club, a new female DJ collective bringing their unique slant to Shoreditch ‘disco pub’.

These women work and breathe music. From hands-on know-how from the fields of music journalism, artist management, PR, marketing, running record labels and being musicians – all with a credible and genuine passion for music – TWIC boasts a bunch of girls that are at the forefront of the scene and know to throw a party in the process.

Rut’s back for a massive Spring Bank Holiday special.

For our May party Tactile are really excited to bring together two DJs from very different parts of the London club scene, who both share a love for deep, underground House music.

Perempay cut his teeth as a Grime DJ but over the last few years his sound has been firmly rooted in deep, soulful House. His prime time Saturday evening show with Cure on Rinse FM has been crucial in turning on London’s pirate audience to the deeper end of House. Along with Dee he is also responsible for some of UK Funky’s biggest hits to date, with the huge ‘In The Air’ with Katie Pearl, ‘Buss It’ and their killer remix of ‘Just Wanna Be Your Girl’. His new single ‘Kick Start’ has been tearing up floors over the last few months and is planned to feature on an EP later this year. Expect cuts from the likes of Osunlade, Dennis Ferrer and DJ Gregory along with plenty of upfront UK material.

Lakuti, Süd Electronic’s mastermind and resident selector and Uzuri label boss, is synonymous with quality underground House (and Underground Quality, come to think of it). Süd are firmly established as one of London’s best house nights, having brought such luminaries as Move D, Efdemin, Levon Vincent and Panorama Bar residents Prosumer and Tama Sumo to play in London. She’s a wicked DJ and we’re very pleased to have her playing with us at The Horse & Groom.

As if that wasn’t tasty enough, we also have Love’s Tru Flavour from Wifey stepping up for us. Wifey have gone into overdrive this year with a slew of nights over the last few months featuring the likes of Untold, Sticky and the mighty Marcus Nasty… watch this space for a taster mix from the man himself.

Meanwhile Tactile stalwart and Universal Vibes helmsman Paddy Freeform will be spinning a deep and diverse selection of beats, while residents Tomas and Mirror Mirror keep things moving with a heady cocktail of House, Techno and Funky.

Move D

If talent converted into record sales, David Moufang would be a very rich man. His records with partner Jonas Grossmann as Deep Space Network and his own solo releases as Move D are among the furthest outreaches of techno’s push towards the stars. Moufang grew up in Heidelberg listening to his parents’ collection of early Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk records but the most overwhelming influence on his childhood was outer space, the result of a trip to the cinema with his father to see 2001: A Space Odyssey. “I was space crazy as a child,” Moufang told journalist Tony Marcus in 1995, “when the other kids were riding around in their little cars I’d be building my own spacecraft. I’d put in a small engine, put rubber on the wheels so it made some noise and stand there with a walkie-talkie and my headphones on. It was very techno…”

Moufang’s grandmothers were both classical concert pianists. He can still remember favourite childhood moments, sitting under the piano as they played, surrounded and lost in sound. By the age of 12, he taken up drums (he eventually went on to study classical percussion) and took up the guitar a few years later, this time taking lessons from two separate jazz guitar teachers. He played guitar in a band called Rivers & Trains well into the ’90s. Occasionally he even plied his trade as a DJ, spinning electro, funk and jazz. It wasn’t until 1989 that he discovered techno when a friend of his, D-Man, invited him to a club he was running in the industrial suburb of Mannheim. When Moufang walked into the Milk! Club that night – like so many others before and after him – he discovered a scene that changed his life. Discovering Detroit, 808 State, Nexus 21 and the first stirrings of ambient techno, Moufang became a committed clubber. Through D-Man, he met Redagain P who converted Moufang’s nickname “Mufti” into the more kinetic Move D.

Moufang’s first records were made with Grossmann as Deep Space Network. Their first two albums, EARTH TO INFINITY (1992) and BIG ROOMS (1993) suggested a significant, unpredictable and innovative talent which was confirmed by the release of HOMEWORKS (1993), a Source Records compilation that included solo tracks such as “Pulsar” and “I’ve Been On Drugs” alongside collaborations with D-Man. Ranging from subtle, Detroit-inflected grooves to wired electronic jazz, Moufang’s music seemed to operate on ambience, slow motion and subdued rhythm, a sound that was rooted, as Tony Marcus later pointed out, “in the jazzy, laid-back but still hip-tugging tradition of Larry Heard, Carl Craig’s “Microlovr” or “The Wonders Of Wishing” and New York’s Burrell Brothers… listening to [Moufang's records] is like a sweet and lazy adventure into sound, a space where time and stress are suspended.” REAGENZ (1994), a collaboration with SpaceTime Continuum’s Jonah Sharp, was an astonishing fusion of beautiful, experimental electronics that reached out to a point that even Detroit’s most visionary producers hadn’t yet achieved.

The Dalston Millionaires Club emerge from the darkest laser illuminated basements of North East London for a ‘nice relaxing evening’” in our great British stable – the pub. Residents MartinSoul & GavKendal host an evening of programmed dancing music. Almost a year since its creation, TDMC (as its affectionately been abbreviated) has found a groove in the basement party scene in East London – Arguably home of some exciting sub-terra venues, club nights and guest DJs in the city.

Initially attended by close friends, friends, friends of friends, themes were set and so a playful friendly atmosphere became an undercurrent of the parties. With an ethos of building a night from scratch, TDMC presents its soundtrack of Disco / House & Techno (in all its wonderful guises) in its sole ambitions of dance floor fever. Join us on Saturday 13th of April, grab a pint, and some scratchings (if you’re so inclined) and shake some at The Dalston Millionaires ”pub” club.

Human Error creators Darren Griffiths and Paul Hamilton take their fun electronic Human Error club night to the Horse and Groom this Easter Saturday. Darren and Paul brought Human Error to life last year with a bang after gaining a bi monthly residency at the increasingly popular disco pub The Star of Bethnal Green. Since then they’ve thrown a number of successful Human Error parties which have included DJ sets from the likes of Russ Chimes, Futurecop!, and Fear of Tigers. They’re nights are increasingly gaining popularity due to the friendly clubers . feel good atmosphere and futuristic cutting edge music

Co-promoter & resident DJ Griff will be opening the night with a nu wave selection ofdreamy synths, driving basslines and 80s beats! East London’s SniTch DJs will be making some time for Human Error in their incredibly busy DJ schedule. SniTch are an unconventional and playful double act who have the benefit of musical geekery and technical derring-do on their side. They’ll be keeping the party going with their choice cuts of everything that’s good in electronic music.

Black Masa are regular DJs at Human Error parties and are back again at the Horse and Groom. Previously the club scene’s biggest secret this electro duo are set to make it big this year, with their blend of dirty beats and tongue in cheek mash ups. Describing themselves as ‘Like 2 Many DJs but not as good’ could be a tad modest, if any of their recent gigs are to go by. Expect Rowdy Wobble, Electro, Dubstep & Fidget meets whatever classic rock, hip hop, punk & pop Black Masa has in mind.

A self confessed vinyl addict, DJ DAPPA has been playing music since 1993 in London. Musical styles range from Hip-Hop House soul funk disco ,Dubstep and Drum & Bass. DAPPA has such a vast collection of music that he has been collecting for 20+years (currently around 20-25,000 records and that was his last count around 5 years ago) Holding down a weekly show on Rinse FM which is mainly based around Dubstep,house music and the sons and daughters of house. DJ DAPPA has played at many of London’s top night such as Ministry Of Sound, Embasse , CLUB 10,HERBAL,Aquarium, East Village, Bar Rumba the list just keeps going on.

The first in the series of bank holiday events taking place over the summer of 2010 with London’s Discovery & Warm party crews joining forces for some very hot events with some truly amazing & talented guests. We will be kicking of proceedings with a very special all night Easter Sunday party taking over both floors of Easter London’s premier haunt, the Horse & Groom. Joining the Warm & Discovery residents Ali Tillett, Rob Summerhayes, Neil Thornton, Dave Rose & Guille will be one of France’s finest producers of House, Techno and Disco as we welcome Parisian producer I:Cube making a very rare UK appearance.

Nicolas Chaix aka I:Cube is not only one of the strongest talents out of Paris, but also on the international electronic circuit. He is the mastermind behind quite a few essential 12″s and albums and also has an impressive string of remixes under his belt. Nicolas is also one half of the superb Chateau Flight outfit, teaming up with his partner in crime, Gilb’r ( who also runs the Versatile imprint). Nicolas manages to cater to a wide range of musical tastes fusing deepest Technosoul, bottom-heavy dope beats and abstract House cunnings to create his inimitable I:Cube sound; an incredible talent hidden behind the ghosts in his machines.  To finish off proceedings we will also be joined by some of our favourite London based friends over two rocking floors.

It’s Hustle time again!! Hustle’s Neil Thornton & Guille Bo continues their fun packed Hustle parties at East London’s premier disco with another fiesta filled ‘Hustle Deluxe’ event joining the boys downstairs is Manchester legend Stefano (Disco Outcasts) who has been signed to Creation Records and sold over 70,000 records and as a dj has done it all literally also on the bill is Size Doesn’t Matter’s Bee Shiver while upstairs Curious People rock the House with special guest from TotheBone

Stefano is a legend of the Manchester music scene. As a producer he has had releases on Rob Gretton’s (New Order Manager) Pleasure Records, Yeti, News, Schtum, before being signed to the now defunkt Creation label, (home to Oasis & Primal Scream) published byBMG & Warner Chappel. His releases at this time have sold in excess of 70,000 units. As a DJ Stefano has done it all. He began his career in the early 1990s as part of the MVIT Soundsystem, promoters of legendary warehouse parties in Manchester and the North West of England & residents @ The Midland, Konspiracy, The House, PSV, Epping Walk & The Kitchen parties. Kezokichi (Back To Back /Calling All Tribes)

The Japanese rising star Kezokichi arrived fresh in London less than a year ago from Tokyo and has already established himself on the European club circuit. With gigs in London and Milan including Kitsune, Noise Code (Milan), Calling All tribes, KoroKoro, he’s shared bills with Boys Noize, Mystery Jets, Isa GT and Alex Metric. Kezokichi is all about beautiful music, calling his last mix “winter gift”. He short mixes splicing genres keeping the energy high whilst slipping in his own re-edits and mash-ups. We’re super excited to have him down and behind the decs!

Last month’s raucous, table-dancing visit of Polaroid’s own Joe Morris, our busiest and grooviest party yet, has set the bar high for April, but it’s a special date for Dropout: our second birthday. After small beginnings in Stoke Newington, we’re proud to be celebrating into a third year, and we have two very special guests Atomic Jam resident Chris Finke, and Mixtape’s Gus Brown.

It’s a rare occurrence when a DJ rises to international acclaim based on their pure skill behind the decks. Chris Finke, is a perfect example of someone so talented that his ability to destroy dance floors has propelled him to some of the most exciting clubs and events in the world. Raised in between England and Ibiza, his immersion in the rave scene in the 90s fanned the musical flames, and in the 2000s he formed Flux recordings, and became resident of London techno hangout Split. Most famous as a resident at Birmingham’s legendary “Atomic Jam” event, his reputation now spans the globe, and the last few years he’s been establishing himself as a producer in his own right, with releases on Flux and remixes on M_REC and Notorious North. Playing dates as far afield as Tokyo, Ghent, Madrid and Leeds, he’s one the UK’s finest techno talents.

DMODE crew, Oiram Gar and MADZMUSIC, are taking over the decks of the downstairs bar to deliver another night of quality deep and tech-house.

MADZMUSIC’s duo component Kike Neves will be flying straight from NYC to show off his unique deep and bassy tech sound while London based DJ & producer Chicone will bring as usual cutting edge mind-blowing techy grooves to the dance floor. Don’t be surprised if at some point throughout the night you are the witness of an astonishing chemistry-driven back2back, cause that is how MADZMUSIC spoils their crowd. No one has ever been left indifferent under the quality and variety of Oiram Gar’s dj sets and this occasion will by no means be the exception. He can effortlessly take the crowd into an expedition that goes from down-tempo and nu-jazz to the warmest techno in town, touching almost every known genre in between. Stay close to the booth cause you will be asking Oiram Gar countless track titles.

Wi Club v Glue

After a terrific second session – which featured a smash set by Toni Rossano as ‘Pinkbeard’ in full drag – the girls from the WI Club are raring to go for the next party on Saturday April 24th. The WI Club is a dangerous and highly entertaining collective of women armed with some serious tuneage – ready to take to the decks for a serious onslaught of dance-floor mayhem.

TWIC is about fun, eclectic and inspiring music selection – with tongue placed firmly in cheek – presented to you by some of London’s most charming and dangerous women from the worlds of music and media. Expect a steady carpet-shaking selection of house, disco, hip hop, techno, acid house, indie-electro and who-knows-what-else in-between. Welcome to the WI Club, a new female DJ collective bringing their unique slant to Shoreditch ‘disco pub’.

These women work and breathe music. From hands-on know-how from the fields of music journalism, artist management, PR, marketing, running record labels and being musicians – all with a credible and genuine passion for music – TWIC boasts a bunch of girls that are at the forefront of the scene and know to throw a party in the process.

Glue returns to the Horse & Groom and is now a monthly event! For our first night since January’s mayhem filled rave we’ve summoned the special skills of Coin Operated Boy. Hailing from Sheffield he’s a rare guest in the capital so will no doubt by serving up some tasty electro treats for the occasion. And to get a hint of the wonders he’ll have on display check out his recent releases on Gash Digital, Kiss My Bass and bunch of others. Helping Coin Operated Boy out with his own brand of bass fueled fun is Sai, who’ll be playing back to back with his infamous Wobble Squad. Expect some serious madness any time these guys get together!

As always the Glue’s residents, Hell Yeah and Bump will be filling out the lineup with there unique charms and special tunes. Hell Yeah will be dropping his mix of electro, breaks and rave noise which always goes down a charm whilst Bump will be playing out a slightly deeper, techier selection to help get the party started.

Sebastiano Piva

Featured filmmaker is Sebastiano Piva, young Italian filmmaker who’ll presenting his film Solo. Visually reminiscent of the cartoon-like style in A Scanner Darkly, Solo depicts a semi-deserted London of the future in which the only means for Dylan to find love is in a virtual world. Skilfully intertwining contemporary dance into its narrative, Solo explores issues of growing isolation in a world where our main method of communication is through the internet.

Friday April 30th sees the third installment of Causes Of Colour at the Horse & Groom. This will also be the launch party for our brand spanking new website and joining Ali Tillett and Tim Goldsworthy will be Cottam, Diesel (X-Press 2/Moton), Joel Martin (Quiet Village), Trevor Jackson (Output – Playgroup), Jim Stanton and Severino (Horse Meat Disco)!

Tim Goldsworthy is one of the unsung heroes of electronic dance music. Having co-founded the legendary Mo’Wax label in the early 1990’s with UNKLE’s James Lavelle they went on to sign acts such as Air, Luke Vibert, Malcolm Catto, DJ Shadow and DJ Krush to name just a few! After leaving Mo’Wax and London behind he fled to NYC where he set-up yet another hugely influential label, DFA Records with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, where he produced ground breaking LP’s for LCD Soundsystem, Hercules & Love Affair and Cut Copy. Having now relocated to Bristol, Tim has been working in the studio with Massive Attack, The Detachments and Goldfrapp! Once again Tim will be treating us to his new DJ/live set-up which sees him incorporating aspects of his studio into his an Ableton set stock-full of drum machines and EFX to create something a bit out of the ordinary!

Since the late 1980s Trevor Jackson has been causing waves as an art director, designer, film-maker, DJ and producer. In 1996 he founded Output Recordings and for the next 10 years he lent it his unique flair for visual and artistic identity, releasing groundbreaking records by the likes of Four Tet, LCD Soundsystem, and The Rapture. The music produced under his Underdog and Playgroup projects has variously touched upon hip-hop, psychedelia, dub and electronica to widespread acclaim, and as a DJ he is known to be doggedly open-eared and wide-ranging in his tastes.

Joining Tim and Trevor will be Warm’s very own head honcho Ali Tillett. Ali has been behind the hugely successful Warm events agency for the past ten years looking after artists such as Ame, Dixon, Henrik Schwarz, Horse Meat Disco, The Revenge and Mark E to name just a few! Ali worked at Nuphonic Records before its demise and played at the now legendary London Xpress and Bridge & Tunnel parties warming up for artists such as Carl Craig, DJ Harvey, Metro Area and many more so it was only a matter of time before he got the ten year itch and wanted to get away from the usual two hour set so expect the unexpected!

Upstairs we welcome Warm friends and family to celebrate the launch of our brand new website. Paul Cottam is a recent edition to the Warm agency and the man behind the most talked about (and most brightly coloured!) series of disco edits last year, each one a perfectly rendered take on raw slo-mo house varnished in a deep-seated passion for soulful music. Joining Cottam will be Diesel, who as one third of the legendary X-Press 2 has been on the vanguard of electronic music since the early 1990s and as the man behind Moton Recordings is responsible for many a prime cut of re-edited dancefloor weirdness.

Joel Martin of Quiet Village will also be contributing his skills as crate-digger extraordinaire and Severino and Jim Stanton of the legendary Horse Meat Disco parties will also be coming along for the ride!!!
